“The Antitrust has opened an investigation on Amazon into the hypothesis that it exploits its dominant position to force third-party sellers to rely on its logistics services. "The Authority has approved the launch of an investigation procedure against five companies of the Amazon group, Amazon Services Europe S.à rl, Amazon Europe Core S.à rl, Amazon EU S.à rl, Amazon Italia Services Srl and Amazon Italia Logistica Srl, to ascertain an alleged abuse of a dominant position in violation of art. 102 of the TFEU ".

"Today, the officials of the Authority carried out inspections at the offices of some of the companies concerned, with the help of the special Antitrust Unit of the Guardia di Finanza", underlines the Authority in a note, explaining that "Amazon would only confer to third-party sellers who subscribe to the logistics service offered by Amazon itself (Fulfillment by Amazon or Fulfillment by Amazon) advantages in terms of visibility of their offer and improvement of their sales on Amazon.com, compared to sellers who are not customers of Fulfillment of Amazon ". And "such conduct may not be inherent in a competitive confrontation based on merit, but rather on Amazon's ability to discriminate on the basis of whether or not sellers adhere to the FBA (self-preferencin) logistics service, underlines the Antitrust , specifying that "the procedure will be concluded by April 15, 2020".
