Startup Nura creates hybrid headphones

There are headphones, earphones and then there are the Nuraphone. It is a new idea of audio device, a  hybrid which combines both in a single object, over the ear outside (a way in which the headset completely envelops the ear), in ear inside (they are characterized by the two earphones that are inserted inside the ear), with a particular addition of a system to improve the perception of sound. These headphones hybrid have been designed by startup Australian Nura (link where you can buy the headphones directly from the site the cost is 399 euros with the guarantee of being able to return them within 30 days of purchase if you are not satisfied) led by Dragan Petrovic and by the partner Luke Campbell doctor-otolaryngologist.

Nuraphopne Aesthetics

As for the aesthetic side they look like classic over ear headphones, the pavilions are closed by a silicone membrane from which two earphones stand out that fit into the ears. Here's what this is all about hybridization. They have dimensions of 190 x 170 x 88 mm, weigh 329 grams and are built in part in steel and aluminum, they also have a microphone, also suitable for telephone conversations. The hybrid headphones are sold in a rigid black casing very resistant to protect them from impacts. The closure is very secure thanks to a magnet and a silicone band. Inside, there is a case (also in silicone) that hides the USB cable supplied for charging. They also have aptX HD Bluetooth connectivity, but can also take advantage of other types of connections such as:

  • wired,
  • lightning cable,
  • USB-C, micro-USB,
  • Analog

Inside there is a lithium battery, which guarantees music playback up to 20 hours. These headphones do not cancel noise but isolate high frequencies.

Headphone Features

Usually the over ear headphones have a not a little annoying problem, after a few hours of listening the lack of ventilation leads the user to have very hot ears. To counter this annoying problem it was installed a valve cooling system by the name Tesla Flow, which tends to let in fresh air inside and bring the warm one outwards. These hybrid headphones are activated automatically, a voice starts, and warns the user that the bluetooth connection to the device has been made and what percentage of battery is left. As previously written, the purpose of this project is to personalize the user's hearing experience by achieving perfection. In fact, each human ear has a different ability to perceive different frequencies, so a headset that adapts to the needs of one user does not necessarily satisfy the needs of another. It was possible to make it happen thanks to doctor Luke Campbell, otolaryngologist and associate of the startup, which has exploited a technology used in the neonatal setting. The principle has been adapted into an app, named "Nura"Downloadable for smartphone both for iOS that for Android. This technology reproduces a series of tones in the ear and then measures a very faint sound that the ear generates in response to these tones which are called Otoacoustic Emission (OAE). This small signal originates in the cloclea which causes the eardrum to vibrate once analyzed in about 60 seconds via the application and an advanced algorithm, return the spectrum of the customized equalization. The system uses an extremely sensitive microphone to detect this returning sound wave. Finally, you can save up to three profiles, and if you use a profile that is not yours, you will notice the substantial differences between different ears.
