2021: Lightning-fast supercomputer

By 8 May 2019No Comments

«The construction of the next fastest supercomputer in the world has already begun, capable of performing a mind-boggling number of operations per second: one and a half billion. It will see the light in the United States, at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (Ornl) of the American Department of Energy (DOE), and is expected to be online in 2021. The supercomputer, called Frontier, will cost over 600 million dollars and will be used of extremely advanced processing systems and Artificial Intelligence. The unprecedented computing power of Frontier and its next-generation technologies will be an incredible resource for researchers, who will use them to advance knowledge in many fields: from climate sciences to genomics, from physics to sub-atomic structures. . "Frontier represents the state of the art in high performance computing," comments Jeff Nichols, researcher at Oak Ridge. "
